Bio
Back in 1977 stock car driver Darrell Waltrip said of his Chevy Monte Carlo racer, "Bertha," that it was "jes' all ate up with motor." After writing about cars and automotive history in my personal journal for several years, I decided it was time to start a blog that was purely "ate up with motor." (I have a separate personal journal, so you won't find torrid confessionals, LOLcat picture, or memes here.)

There are plenty of sites for automotive news and new model reviews, so I'm not going to try to compete with them, although I may comment on something if it seems interesting or pressing. I do occasionally talk about new cars, but the criteria is that they be interesting, which is not something that can be said of a lot of current automobiles. I don't have any sacred cows, nor any prejudices based on make or nationality, but I don't like trucks and SUVs, so you're not going to see anything here about the new Land Rover or Hummer.

Most of the photos you'll find here are of cars I've seen and photographed in the Los Angeles area, which provides them in abundance. You can also see more of my photos at my Flickr page, if you're interested.

The information in the essays is drawn from a variety of books, periodicals, and websites. I'm doing this for fun, not academic publication, so there are no footnotes, but I do make an effort to make it as accurate as I can. There is a an endless amount of apocrypha concerning cars, their history, and their performance, made up of a combination of press-office bullshit, wishful thinking, and biased personal opinion. If you note an error, I'll correct it, although if what you say sounds really surprising or odd, I'm likely to ask you for a source. It doesn't necessarily mean I don't believe you, but that it seems at odds with the other sources I've consulted.

Please note: I'm not affiliated with any manufacturer, organization, or other publication, and all opinions are entirely my own.
